What is the Cisco GLC-SX-MM?
Manufactured by Cisco, the GLC-SX-MM is defined as a small form factor pluggable transceiver, sometimes referred to as a mini GBIC, which allows for enhanced connectivity between networking system products (ie. routers and computers) by means of a fiber optic cable connection. To be used by anyone involved in the building of SFP ports, this gigabit interface converter is known as a hot-swappable input/output device which plugs into a gigabit ethernet port, linking the port with the network.
The GLC-SX-MM generally includes numerous transmitter and radio types which enable the individual to select the best solution given the specific circumstance. Usually intended for distances no greater than 500 meters the GLC-SX-MM is capable of moving data at speeds as high as 10 Gbits/second through the use of optic cables known as multimode fiber. The GLC-SX-MM, 1000BASE-SX SFP operates on ordinary multimode fiber optic link spans of up to 550 meters in length.
SFPs such as the GLC-SX-MM can be used and interchanged with a wide variety of Cisco products to be intermixed in combinations of 1000BASE-LX/LH, 1000BASE-ZX or 1000BASE-SX dependent on port type. The Cisco made GLC-SX-MM uses an LC variety connector which allows for greater volume between devices.
